Design Engineer

Industrial Welding & Fabricating Co. (A Division of JMI Steel) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Design Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will oversee construction projects to ensure the safety, integrity, and strength of the structures we build.

In this role, you will split your time between our office, where you will design and plan project details, and the construction site, where you will provide technical guidance and support to the construction team.

To excel in this position, you must posess hands-on experience with various construction methods and materials, coupled with advanced proficiency in AutoCAD. Strong project management, analytical abilities, and a keen attention to detail are also essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Design structures such as buildings, machinery, and bridges.
  • Collaborate with contractors and project managers to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.
  • Choose appropriate materials based on structural specifications, environmental conditions, and safety requirements.
  • Measure loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence to ensure the structural integrity of designs.
  • Render detailed reviews of shop drawings and determine design impacts based on conflicts, interference issues, or omissions.
  • Provide field measurements as needed to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Track and report on project progress to stakeholders, keeping them informed of timelines and any necessary adjustments.
  • Promote continuous improvement and contribute to company-wide policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Assure internal systems control quality through the manufacturing process, from drawings to fabrication, shipping, and final installation.
  • Consult with fabricators and, when necessary, liaise with architects and engineers to resolve any technical issues.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, including AutoCAD and TEKLA Structures, to stay updated with technological advances.
  • Follow construction safety guidelines to ensure all practices are compliant with industry regulations and standards.
  • Prepare budgets and track project expenses to maintain cost control throughout the project.
  • Be responsive to customer needs, including those of suppliers and personnel, providing professional and prompt assistance.
  • Represent the organization in a safe and high-quality manner to ensure a positive public and client-facing image.

Requirements and Skills

  • Previous experience as a structural engineer or in a similar field, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction methods and regulations, ensuring designs are compliant with industry standards.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD and other relevant CAD software, demonstrating proficiency in creating detailed structural models.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and precision in design and project execution.
  • Degree in Structural Engineering or a related field, with a solid foundation in the principles of structural design and analysis.

Plumbing Installation Technician 

Properly install plumbing systems. Tech is responsible for maintaining the quality of work up to acceptable standards and for representing the company in a manner that promotes good relations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Install equipment properly the first time at a customer’s location.
  • Attend all training classes and training seminars to keep their expertise upgraded.
  • Adhere to proper procedures in the use of paperwork (work orders, return material tags, etc.)
  • Take directions regarding scheduling from the above.
  • Follow through on job problems.
  • Keep manager informed of progress of job and any additional ordering or work needing to be completed.
  • Turn in all paperwork to office making sure it is filed out completely and accurately in the field.
  • Responsible for having minimum required stock on truck at all times.
  • Other tasks as requested by operations manager, field supervisor or field foreman.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good mechanical ability
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to read and use tape measure.
  • Able to calculate and understand basic math.
  • Ability to direct and train helpers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • The physical demands for this position can be heavy. Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

Desired candidate should have good organizational skills and a strong familiarity with skid steers and/or forklifts.

Welder

 

Read and interpret blue prints.

Lay out and fabricate steel structure including but not limited to structural steel beams, stair stringers, and pipe railings.

Perform welding to AWS D1.1 Certification

Run welding related equipment including but not limited to CNC drill line, Ironworker machine, hydraulic punches, plate shear, plate rolls, torches, marvel saws, paint sprayer, and fork trucks.

Maintain a safe and clean work environment, follows safety regulations, and actively contributes towards a safe environment. Clean up work areas as needed.

Class B Driver (Mixer) 

Safe and timely delivery of ready-mixed concrete to residential / commercial construction projects and road construction sites.  This position will work with direct and indirect supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete Driver Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections as well as ensure preventative measures are completed on truck (fuel, oil levels, wear and tear) and write up accordingly.
  • Ensure delivery is being completed safely and timely in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Adhere to company safety and employment policies.
  • Maintain communication with dispatch, field representatives and other company employees to ensure concrete is being delivered safely and timely.
  • Safely maintain work area and vehicle in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • All drivers are expected to operate their vehicle in a safe and professional manner, both on road and off.
  • Communicates with Dispatcher to receive instructions.
  • Fills truck’s water tank and verifies accurate slump of load, makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Works with customers to obtain adequate vehicle access and unloads material.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, and attaches flop extension chutes weighing in excess of 40 pounds, re-hangs chutes as necessary.
  • Rinses chutes and rear of truck to ensure absence of excess concrete.
  • Returns to company site as instructed by Dispatcher and receives new instructions.
  • Safely maneuver truck on job site.
  • Complete all forms, tickets and required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Concrete mixer operating experience preferred

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • One year experience with a CDL Class B License or better
  • Maintain a safe driving record
  • Must be able to maintain corporate insurability standards
  • Retain a DOT physical card and Pass a DOT drug screen
  • Concrete mixer operating experience not required, but is a plus; will train
