Yearly Training Opportunities at JMI
JMI held a week-long series of safety meetings at the company’s precast manufacturing facility in Kennedy, NY. Division managers, team leaders and several industry experts were brought in to discuss topics pertaining to workplace safety.
To kick off the safety week events, JMI employees from all locations were required to attend a First Aid seminar with presenter Ben Chase. This session included instruction on life saving measures such as CPR and how to use AED equipment. All employees who participated in this session received First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.
Employees from JMI’s Heating & Air / Plumbing divisions participated in training exercises that showed how to properly run a scissor lift, boom lift and fork lift. Following this instructional activity, employees completed a 4-hour OSHA refresher course and received a JMI Lift Certification.
Employees from JMI’s Asphalt, Precast and Supply Divisions met to review company safety policies and a received 4-hour OSHA training.
All CDL drivers are required to participate in annual DOT and safety trainings. New York State Troopers Dave Hammond and Wayne Osgood were on-hand to review the rules of the road. They provided an overview of all mandatory truck safety checks and did a walk around inspection. Troopers wrapped up their session with an informative Q&A discussion. Drivers also completed their 4-hour DOT recertification and a mandatory OSHA safety refresher course.
To close out Safety Week, employees from all 6 mine locations completed an MSHA 8-hour ART / Mine Safety Training with James Tycka of NYSDOL.
